Film Information:
La Règle du jeu (The Rules of the Game) is a 1939 French film directed by Jean Renoir. It is Renoir's look at bourgeois life in France at the onset of World War II. An assorted cast of characters - the rich and their poor servants - meet up at a French chateau.
The film was initially condemned for its satire on the French upper classes and was greeted with derision by a Parisian crowd on its première. The French government banned it.
Don't miss the film that enraged Parisians in 1939.
