Plant breeding is an exciting combination of science and art, where relatively simple techniques can produce exciting new plant varieties.
Learn the fundamentals of plant breeding from Virginia Tech Horticulture Professor Dr. Alex Niemiera in association with Virginia’s popular plant introduction program – Beautiful Gardens®. You’ll learn the importance of plant selection and reproduction, heredity, general breeding techniques and objectives, as well as evaluation of new plants. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be the next gardener to introduce a new plant to the market!
This two hour workshop will include classroom instruction followed by hands-on work with a number of plants. Includes reference materials and plants to take home.
You must pre-register to take part in the workshop. The workshop is limited to 20 participants.
