The Hokie Health Code-a-thon 2012 will be a two-day coding competition, bringing together teams of student and professional developers to create innovative solutions to improve healthcare.

The Hokie Health Code-a-thon 2012 will leverage world-class student and professional software development talent with healthcare IT expertise to innovate and create solutions to healthcare problems.

The event will draw over 75 physicians, scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, students and enthusiasts that want to change the world and improve healthcare – all during an intense and enjoyable 2 days of hacking, developing, innovating and creating. The event will feature a number of excellent tech talks and buzz-worthy speakers discussing cutting edge issues in technology.

The event the will culminate in a judging session with the best creations taking home cash prizes of $5,000. The top team will be awarded $2,500 cash. The next five teams will each receive $500 cash.

The event is hosted at TechPad, a technology co-working space in downtown Blacksburg focused on providing an open collaboration environment for software product companies. TechPad is located at 432 North Main Street, Suite 200.

SPEAKERS:
- Aneesh Chopra, Innovation in Health IT
Aneesh Chopra was the first American Federal Chief Technology Officer of the United States (CTO). Chopra previously served as Virginia’s fourth Secretary of Technology. Prior to his government service, Chopra was Managing Director for the Advisory Board Company, a health care think tank for hospitals and health systems.

- Eric Ries, Launching a Lean Startup (via Skype)
Eric Ries is the creator of the Lean Startup methodology and the author of the popular entrepreneurship blog Startup Lessons Learned. He previously co-founded and served as Chief Technology Officer of IMVU. In 2007, BusinessWeek named Ries one of the Best Young Entrepreneurs of Tech and in 2009 he was honored with a TechFellow award in the category of Engineering Leadership.

6:30 pm – Pizza party @ TechPad provided
