Authors Jeanne Larsen, Philip F. Deaver, Kirby Gann and David Huddle will be featured readers at Radford University's Fourth Annual Highlander Literary Festival on Tuesday, April 17.

The writers will read from their own works, with a panel discussion and book signing to follow. Books will be for sale before and after the event at the university's bookstore in Dalton Hall and at the signing session.

The free public event at 7 pm in the Hurlburt Student Center auditorium will be presented in conjunction with the Undergraduate/Graduate Forum and cosponsored by the Department of English, the Club Programming Committee, the Honors Academy and the English Club.

Jeanne Larson:
Larsen, an English professor at Hollins University, is a poet, novelist and essayist who has written a dozen books. She will read her poem "Compassion's Garden" and selections from "Willow, Wine, Mirror, Moon," a literary translation of women's poems from China.

Philip Deaver:
Deaver is an English professor and permanent writer-in-residence at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. He is a winner of the Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction for his book "Silent Retreat" and has held fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts and Bread Loaf School of English. He will read from "Silent Retreat" and his poetry collection "How Men Pray."

Kirby Gann:
Gann, managing editor at Sarabande Books, is the recipient of an individual artist fellowship and two professional assistance awards from the Kentucky Arts Council. He will read from his novel "Ghosting," being released the week of the festival, and an earlier novel, "Our Napoleon in Rags."

David Huddle:
Huddle, a frequent guest teacher and reader at the university's annual Highland Summer Conference, will moderate the panel. A widely published poet, essayist and short-story writer, he is currently Distinguished Visiting Professor of Creative Writing at Hollins. He will read from his poetry collection "Glory River" and his new novel, "Nothing Can Make Me Do This."
