Join us for a fun-filled family weekend June 9 and 10 as Giles County commemorates an historic action between Confederate forces led by Gen. Henry Heth and a Federal regiment led by future U.S. President Lt. Col. Rutherford B. Hayes.
On Saturday enjoy a military parade down Main Street Pearisburg, a Living History encampment, BBQ dinner, period music and dancing and a Civil War hospital.
On Sunday see a grand reenactment of The Battle of Giles Court House! A film crew will be shooting the entire weekend for a documentary film.
Saturday's Schedule:
• 11:00 am –- 1:00 pm - Muster, inspection, memorial service, parade
• 11:00 am –- 5:00 pm - Camps open to the public
• 3:00 –- 5:00 pm - Demonstrations on the battlefield and in camp
• 6:00 –- 9:00 pm - Activities at the Giles County Historical Society and Giles Courthouse. (BBQ dinner, music, dance, Civil War hospital)
There are two sites for the weekend's festivities. Saturday's activities such as the dance and dinner will be held at Main Street in Pearisburg centered around 208 North Main Street. The Battlefield site and encampment will be located off old Route 100 just beyond Bluff City.
Parking:
For Saturday's events, parking is available at municipal parking lots behind the courthouse and behind the stores on the south side of Wenonah Avenue. That lot is accessible next to the Pearisburg town hall at 112 Tazewell Street. Other parking areas are the Magic Mart/Food Lion lot, or on town streets.
