Description:
The Perspective Gallery (located on the 2nd floor of Squires Student Center) is hosting a reception for the Two x Two collection currently on display on Friday, June 15th.

Two x Two, a collection of works by Virginia Tech faculty members Janet Niewald and David Crane, will be on display in the Perspective Gallery in Squires Student Center through August 11.

Both the reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.

Niewald's oil painting and Crane's stoneware pottery have both been exhibited on the national level. Most recently, Niewald had a one-person show at the McCarthy Gallery at Washington and Lee University. She was chosen for a competition at First Street Gallery and the 185th Invitational of Contemporary American Art at the National Academy of Design, both in New York. Niewald was also featured in the Nature in the Non-Objective Realm exhibit at the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke and she exhibited still-life paintings at the Roanoke WVTF radio station gallery alongside the local artists' collective 16Hands.

Last year, Crane's work was featured in a one-person show at Concord University in West Virginia. He has also participated in group shows at the Trax Gallery in Berkley, Ca.; the Akar Gallery in Iowa City, Iowa; the American Pottery Festival at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis; and the Santa Fe Clay Gallery in Santa Fe, N.M. He is also a founding member of the 16Hands group.

Crane and Niewald have both been faculty members of the university's School of Visual Arts in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies since 1980. Both are recipients of the college's Career Achievement Award. Despite this connection, their works are rarely exhibited together.
