Description:
The Draper Mile is a one-mile road race that takes place on Draper Road in Blacksburg held in conjunction with the Steppin’ Out Festival. This is the 31st anniversary of the race.

This year will feature three races the Children's Fun Run, the Mile Race for those races with top times and the Open Mile Run open to anyone. Only 150 spots are available for each race. The first 200 registrants will receive t-shirts.

The course is mostly downhill, starting and ending on Draper Road in Blacksburg, with the finish in the middle of the street festival. Times are about 10–12 seconds faster than a track mile.

Schedule:
• Children’s Fun Run: 6:20 pm at the corner of the Kent Square Parking Garage. This race is free, but is only for ages 8 and under. The distance is 300 meters. Participants will meet at the start at 6:10 pm.

• Mile Race: 6:30 pm — Open to males faster than 6:15 minutes and females faster than 7:15 minutes.

• Open Mile Run: 6:40 pm — This race is open to anyone age 8 and over.

Awards and cash prizes will be awarded to the top runners in various age groups. In case of ties, the prize money will be split.

Race-day registration and packet pickup will be held at the backdoor of Mish Mish from 10 am - 6 pm which is located in downtown Blacksburg on Jackson Street.

To pre-register for the race fill out the registration form which can be returned to Runabout Sports in the University Mall or Mish Mish (125 North Main Street, Blacksburg) or mail the form and check to Blacksburg Striders, PO Box 764, Blacksburg, VA 24073-0764.

All pre-registered participants must have their completed forms and payment turned into race officials by August 1st in order to receive the pre-registration discount.
