Blacksburg’s Market Square Jam kicks off the summer 2012 season on Wednesday, July 11th with the first host band The Jugbusters. The Jam is a weekly event that takes place Wednesday evenings from 8-11 pm at the site of the Farmers Market on Draper Road. The season will run from July 11 – September 26.

The Jugbusters are described as the most original, organic, homegrown, hard-driving old-time, honkey tonk, swingin' string band in Blacksburg, the New River Valley, and all of the Southern Blue Ridge.

Catering to traditional old time and bluegrass music, the Jam brings musicians together to pick a tune, enjoy some fun times with their friends and family, and take in all that downtown Blacksburg has to offer.

“We’re very excited to bring the Jam back this summer,” said Community Relations Manager Heather Browning. “This year Blacksburg became a member of the Crooked Road Music Trail through our affiliation with the Montgomery County Tourism Council.. The Jam is one of many venues in Blacksburg showcasing the best of Traditional Old Time music. The talent in our community is so incredible, and the Jam is the place to experience it all.”

Whether you’re a musician or just looking for some great music on a Wednesday night, come out to the Farmers Market and enjoy a great time.

Something different this year, “host” bands. Every Wednesday night, in addition to the impromptu jam, there will be a host band to welcome musicians and get the party started. If you have a band or a group of musician friends interested in playing, sign on as a host band and get paid $100.
