Nighttime Pandapas Pond Hike with the USDA Forest Service

Note: If it is raining in Blacksburg around the start time for the hike, the night hike will be rescheduled for next Friday.

Are you afraid of the dark? Curious about the sounds of the night? Join USDA Forest Service Interpretive Specialist Meghan Stump to get acquainted with the nocturnal living and the adaptions necessary for nighttime survival while hiking Pandapas Pond on Friday, July 13th.

Bring bug spray and flashlight if desired, however, all flashlights will be covered with red cellophane to protect our night vision.

Participants will meet by the Pandapas Pond Bulletin Board before the hike begins.

Directions:
From Blacksburg, travel on US-460 West. (About 7 miles)
Turn left onto Forest Service Road 808
Follow signs to the lower parking lot

Pandapas Pond is about 15 minutes northwest of Blacksburg, Virginia and located off of US-460. Primary activities include fishing, trail running, hiking, and hiking with leashed dogs but mountain biking and horseback riding are not allowed. Parking is free, abundant, and accommodates horse trailers.

There are two parking lots on the east side of the park. The lower parking lot is for visitors to Pandapas Pond while the upper parking lot is for hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders seeking access to the Poverty Creek Trail System.
