Back Country Ski and Sports and Montgomery County Parks and Rec are proud to present the 2012 New River Paddle Fishing Tournament! This year, the tournament will cover an extended stretch on the New River from Whitethorne, VA to Eggleston, VA.

We kept the price the same as last year; $25 entry per person. This includes tournament entry, t-shirt, shuttle (which is only running from McCoy to Whitethorne – see tournament regulations for more info), two nights of camping, live Bluegrass entertainment featuring the Bristol VA based “Me And The Boys”, BBQ dinner, and entry into a raffle for a boat! It’s going to be a great time!

The Tournament Headquarters will be located off of McCoy road at a private location. Be advised, due to the longer stretch of river available for fishing this year we are designating two different sections.

New for this year are additional tournament categories! There will be a Men’s Spinning Category, Women’s Spinning Category, Fly Category, Junior Category (16 and under), and the Midnight Musky Challenge.

The Midnight Musky Challenge begins at 5:00 pm on Friday July 20th, and ends at the weigh-in on Saturday July 21st at 3:00 pm. The Challenge is open to anyone brave enough to attempt, and costs an additional $10 entry.

There are $1000's of dollars in prizes to be won by all categories including boats, paddles, and tons and tons of gear!

Participation is open to anyone 18 years of age or older. Minors are eligible to participate with a parent or legal guardian signature.

-5:00 a.m. – Check In
-5:15 a.m. – Captains Meeting
-5:30 a.m. – Tournament Start Time
-10:00 a.m. – Check In Ends
-3:00 p.m. – Photo Weigh-In Deadline
-3:00 p.m. - Local Bluegrass Band
-3:00 p.m to 4:00 p.m. – Barbecue Dinner
-5:00 p.m. – Awards Ceremony and Raffle

All fish will be scored by photo release. All fish must be released.

During competition, contestants must abide by all regulations stated by the VA Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the state of Virginia. All participants must have appropriate fishing license.

Eligible watercraft includes canoes, kayaks and inflatable raft. Watercraft may only be powered by a paddle or oar.
