Description:
Virginia artist Rebecca Kamen, who has exhibited and lectured nationally and internationally in China, Hong Kong, and Egypt, will present a public lecture on art informed by science, and science revealed by art at the Virginia Tech Institute for Creativity, Arts and Technology Studio located within Collegiate Square.

Kamen’s work explores the nexus of art and science. Her recent large- scale sculpture installation, Divining Nature: An Elemental Garden has been informed by wide ranging research into chemistry, cosmology, spirituality and philosophy. She has also investigated rare books and manuscripts at the libraries of the American Philosophical Society and the Chemical Heritage Foundation, utilizing scientific collections as a muse in the creation of her work. The recipient of a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Professional Fellowship, a Pollack Krasner Foundation Fellowship, and a Strauss Fellowship, Kamen served as an artist in residence with the National Institutes of Health during the summer of 2012. Her work is represented in many private and public collections.

This event is part of a residency co-presented by the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology, Virginia Tech’s School of Visual Arts, and the Christiansburg Public Library.
