Description:
The Roanoke - Blacksburg Technology Council (RBTC) hosts the August Tech and Toast entitled "Introducing the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology at Virginia Tech (ICAT):
Research and Industrial Partnership at the Intersection of Art, Design, Engineering, and Science" with Dr. Benjamin Knapp as the speaker. The attendance cost also includes breakfast.

Dr. Benjamin Knapp is the Director of the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) and Professor of Computer Science at Virginia Tech.

The symbiotic relationship between creativity and the ability to explore new frontiers is clear and compelling. The Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology, the newest of seven research institutes at Virginia Tech, seeks to explore this relationship. More than just a “Media Lab”, ICAT is a “Transdisciplinary Living Lab” tightly integrated with educational, commercial, and arts communities.

This talk will introduce the institute, its studios, and its three fold mission of 1) preparing students to be part of a new type of transdisciplinary workforce necessary to succeed in this era of rapid innovation, 2) driving economic development by creating an environment for partnering with companies that can adapt and succeed in response to the transdisciplinary driving forces of today’s economy, and 3) engaging the general public at the intersections of science, engineering, art, and design.
