The Virginia Tech Department of Music presents The Kandinsky Trio as part of the University Chamber Music Series. The Kandinsky Trio is celebrating it’s Twenty-fifth season with a unique commissioning project entitled “25 X 25” on Sunday, September 16th in Squires Recital Salon.
Twenty-five composers are writing twenty-five short pieces, commemorating the Kandinsky’s quarter century of music making. In this concert the Kandinsky’s return to Squires and will debut works by Virginia Tech composer Kent Holiday and two of his former students: Tim Mauthe who is currently teaching composition at the College of William and Mary and Vladimir Smirnov who is pursuing a PhD at Duke University.
The delightful Trio in E-flat Major, Op. 1 by Beethoven and Brahms’s seminal Trio in B Major, Op. 8 will also be performed.
