Description:
Gillie's welcomes Jus Post Bellum to the stage on Thursday, September 27th.
Jus Post Bellum's music can be described as anything from folk/indie, to historical fiction set to music. Bandleader Geoffrey Wilson, began writing songs for what he invisioned to be a country-afrobeat band, but soon discovered that it was a difficult genre to do well. Ultimately he put down his saxophone, decided to learn to sing and play guitar and began anew. What came was Jus Post Bellum. The music is inspired by the American Civil War, many years living in the country of upstate New York, and an unhealthy fascination with the muse in his mind of a man and woman from days gone by, living in the woods, loving someone, losing them, dying and growing up again, fearing god and believing in no god, attentive to the minutia and detail in the relationship between nature and man.
The writing is reflecitve, poetic, and often sad, yet somehow inspiring in its attentiveness to detail and richness of metaphor, while maintaining a clarity and directness in its narrative.
Wilson is supported by several gifted and intuitive musicians. Hannah Jensen, a fellow Minnesotan writes and sings most all her own harmonies. She comes from a family of singers and is in fact the only real singer in the band. Recently, someone after a show described her voice as that of "an angel" which we can't officially confirm nor deny... With Zach Dunham on drums and percussion, and Daniel Bieber on upright bass and vocals, between them they are the only ones that know both the correct key and tempo of the songs at any given time. That said they can never really be sure what to expect every time Wilson strikes the first chord. They are very good.
