The Virginia Tech Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band present their first concerts of the academic year on Friday, September 28th in the Haymarket Theater.
David McKee leads the Symphony Band in one of the most beloved marches in the band repertory, Jerry Bilik's Block M March. Polly Middleton conducts Sun Dance by Frank Ticheli and Song for Lyndsay by Andrew Boysen, Jr. The Symphony Band closes its portion of the concert with Café 512, a jazz-inspired piece by Ryan George.
The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, conducted by Travis J. Cross, presents a Latin-themed program,
including Michael Gandolfi's Vientos y Tangos; a transcription of George Gershwin's Prelude No. 2; and the Mambo, Cha-Cha, Meeting Scene, and Cool from Leonard Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. Faculty soloists Jason Crafton, trumpet, and Jay Crone, trombone, are featured on Joseph Turrin's Fandango.
Tickets are available at the venue door beginning one hour prior to the performance.
