Description:
The 17th annual Highlanders Festival brings together Celtic games, clans, music and entertainment for festival-lovers of all ages on Saturday, October 13th with most events held on Radford University's Moffett Field.

Whether a family’s background is of Scots-Irish origin or of other descent, the day always brings with it an air of excitement and anticipation. There is no place more beautiful than Southwest Virginia in the fall and the Blue Ridge Mountains provide a beautiful back-drop for the fall festival.

You will be among the thousands anticipated to descend upon RU’s Moffett Field for a day-long celebration of the region’s rich heritage. Come early and get a good seat on the risers to enjoy the Scots-Irish heavyweight games. Moffett Field will be alive with clan gatherings, more than 50 diverse crafts, sheep herding demonstrations, children’s activities, and music grounded in the rich heritage of both the Scots-Irish and the Appalachian region.

Festival Schedule:
9 am - Heavyweight Games
10:30 am - Parade - Downtown Radford
11 am - Clan March
11:10 am - Massed Band Performance
12 pm - Heavyweight Games Resume
5:30 pm - Awards - Main Stage
8 pm - Brave movie screaming - Hurlburt Auditorium

Entertainment this year is highlighted by bands Fighting Jamesons and Beggar's Circus along with Irish Dancers as well as many more music and dance acts.

Based in Virginia Beach, headliners The Fighting Jamesons are a Celtic-style rock band. They describe their music as “traditional style with an aggressive and energetic modern day approach.” Formed in 2010, the band released its first album in 2011 and has been touring along the East Coast ever since.
