Description:
The Blacksburg Library presents a special guest lecture entitled “Constitutional Rights and Powers of the People: A Discussion of Fundamental Principles and Structures of U.S. Constitutionalism” led by Virginia Tech Professor Wayne Moore on Wednesday, September 19th.
Wayne Moore, VT Associate Professor of Political Science, will explore fundamental principles and structures of U.S. Constitutionalism. The focus will be on the U.S. Constitution’s premises regarding the identities and foundational political authority of “the people,” along with the Constitution’s treatment of the people’s “rights” and “powers” and how they relate to the powers of U.S. and state governmental institutions.
The overarching aims will be to reflect on how “the people” fit within the U.S. constitutional design, including what roles they may play today and in the future. The format of this session will be informal. Professor Moore will offer brief remarks, invite questions, and lead an open discussion on the topics.
Free pocket-size booklets of the Constitution will be made available to attendees.
