Description:
The New York Polyphony performs a special concert on Wednesday, November 14th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Blacksburg.
New York Polyphony is one of the world’s finest a capella vocal chamber ensembles, praised for a “rich, natural sound that’s larger and more complex than the sum of its parts” by National Public Radio. The quartet applies not only refined musicianship and interpretive detail but also a uniquely modern sensibility to its varied repertoire, which ranges from austere medieval melodies to cutting-edge contemporary works.
Furtive passion is the common thread for this concert, featuring music written for hidden chapels and discreet locations. The program will include William Byrd’s exquisite “Mass for Four Voices;” the sensuous texts of the “Song of Songs,” an anthology of Hebrew love poems by Renaissance composers; and contemporary works by Grayston Ives (b. 1948).
