The Pulaski Theatre welcomes Olen and Frances Gardner to the stage on Saturday, September 29th in conjunction with PulaskiFest. Enjoy an evening of Foot Stompin' Bluegrass.
Olen Gardner started playing music very young and partnered with Dell Reeves in the early Fifties, performed with Doc Watson in 1971 and recorded with Charlie Monroe in 1974. Together Olen & Frances recorded an LP in 1976 which was used on "Voice of America" Radio and Radio Free Europe for several years. Thanks to recent Crooked Road promotions, Frances has radio fans in California, and Olen has banjo fans in Australia. They are also receiving radio play in New Zealand. Currently their music can be heard on WVTF Public Radio on Sunday afternoons.
Fiddle player Jonnie Haskins played two years with Mack Wiseman and has also done stints with Jim Eanes, Clyde Moody, Smoky Graves, and Larry Richardson. Johnnie currently teaches violin and fiddle in Roanoke and performs extensively.
Guitar player Alan Messenger is well known in the Roanoke, Rocky Mount and Greenbrier Resort areas. He is a solid guitar player and singer with a wide repertoire. Bass player Darell Jones is well known around the Roanoke area for good rhythm and showmanship.
Door open at 6:30 pm and the music begins at 7:30 pm.
