Description:
Runabout Sports presents the Brush Mountain Zombie Run on Saturday, October 27th at Pandapas Park (not Pandapas Pond). There will be three races: a 5k, 8 miler and a 16 miler. These runs are considered tough and challenging and will have you running for your life.
The 16 miler, 8 miler and 5K fun run are all on trails inside Pandapas Park which is part of the Jefferson National Forest. The run features a challenging course with many hills and some creek crossings (water less than knee deep). There will be slow moving zombies along the course attempting to remove your tag. There are rest stations (also known as SAFE ZONES) with energy gels, bars, water and Gatorade drink.
All the Brush Mountain races are on trails and very limited sections of forest fire roads. The trails cross creeks and offer a good challenge with hills. The trails are well used and are in the scenic Jefferson National Forest.
There will be four aid stations for the 16 miler and two for the 8 miler trail run. The aid stations will have water, Gatorade, energy gels and bars. The aid stations are about every 5 kilometers. The aid stations are also safe zones where you will be free from any zombie scares.
Schedule:
2:00 pm - 16 mile and 8 mile Trail Runs Begin
2:10 pm - 5k Begins
All 16 miler participants receive a technical long sleeve shirt. Participants must finish within the FOUR hour time frame. 8 mile and 5K participants all receive a long sleeve technical shirt.
Awards and door prizes will take place at the University Mall in Blacksburg (off Prices Fork Road on University City Blvd.) at Runabout Sports at 7 pm. The event will be chip timed.
Directions: Travel on Route 460 from Blacksburg towards Bluefield, West Virginia. Drive past Pandapas Pond and continue on 460. About a minute to two minutes past Pandapas Pond (at the crest of the uphill before entering Giles County, just past the switchback) you will see Route 708/Forest Service Road on the left. Take FS 708 for five miles and parking will be on the right side of the road (about ½ mile past Bollees Field).
From Blacksburg the drive will take 20 minutes due to the need to drive slow on the Forest Service Road.
