Description:
The Blacksburg Library presents the Joy of Yarn on Monday, May 6th.
Get ready to take the plunge! In these sessions, we’ll learn about the fulling process (commonly called felting). If you’ve ever shrunk a sweater in the washing machine, you’re familiar with what happens when wool is immersed in hot water and agitated. Normally this is cause for dismay, but I’ll teach you how to knit an object and felt it with control, purpose, and great results! I’ve got patterns for a beginner’s potholder, and set of nesting boxes that will please any advanced stitchers.
Required Materials: At least 150 yards of worsted or bulky weight WOOL yarn, a set of US Size 10.5 knitting needles (straight or dpns).
Be sure to bring yarn that is at the least 80% (non-superwash) animal fiber. This process won’t work with cotton or acrylic yarns!
Note: There will be a follow-up session on Monday, May 20th.
