Building Home is holding a free public presentation on Monday, May 13th at Theatre 101 in downtown Blacksburg. Following the presentation, enjoy a brief performance of new material by the team's actors and a Q&A session.
Refreshments will be provided.
Building Home is a performing arts-based regional planning project, a collaboration between the Virginia Tech Department of Theatre and Cinema and New River Valley Planning District Commission (NRVPDC).
Building Home uses art as a medium for community visioning and dialogue. Since 2011, hundreds of citizens from Pulaski, Montgomery, Giles, and Floyd counties and the City of Radford in Virginia have been singing, sharing stories, and acting out their perspectives on life in the NRV with members of the Building Home team. The stories and perspectives recorded through Building Home have been directly contributing to the NRVPDC’s Livability Initiative: a three-year comprehensive regional planning project. Building Home team has created and performed two original, interactive plays based on community members' stories: "Whether System: A Town Hall Nation Event" (2012) and "behind a stranger's face" (2012).
