Description:
Gillie's welcomes musician Christopher Bell to the stage.
How many musicians are there today? Thousands of post-college hopefuls record in their basement, packing into old vans, traveling across the country in search of a dream. Cellist/songwriter Christopher Bell started just the same way 5 years ago. He kept going, in car, on bike, in a canoe and even on foot, for over 650 shows in 5 years. This February Bell heads back out with two new albums, Live In Your Living Room and Christopher Bell on his self-described trip to ‘have a little fun, tell a couple stories and make them dance.’
Bell attacks the cello, in a style that would make most Suzuki students cringe. Focusing less on the bow and more on turning it into a band, he squeezes every sound out of the instrument. Pounding drums, growling jazz bass-lines, nimble finger tapping and even a glass guitar slide for a couple dirty blues licks punctuate his diverse live show.
Christopher Bell gained national acclaim for utilizing unique modes of transportation to tour, including canoeing the Erie Canal, biking from upstate New York to Chicago, and walking across Massachusetts. The prolific young artist currently resides in Jamestown, New York, where he runs Silent Home Records a recording studio and record label.
