Description:
Virginia Tech's Appalachian Studies presents an Appalachian Storytelling Event designed for local fourth and fifth graders on Monday, June 24th on the lawn of Solitude.
Watch a live performance of “Jack and the Robbers,” a folk tale by R. Rex Stephenson, retired director of the Jack Tale Players and Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre at Ferrum College. His “story” performance will involve audience participation.
Compile a virtual story quilt using art and technology. Participants will see real story quilts being displayed at the event. Then each child will draw a picture on a square of paper and give a brief narration (30 to 60 seconds) that will be recorded.
The finished product will be a Virginia Tech web page with a Facebook link displaying a virtual story quilt comprised of all the participants’ squares of art and recorded stories.
Space is limited so pre-registration is required. Email Robin Kauffman at rkauffma@vt.edu to reserve a spot. The registration deadline is Wednesday, June 19th.
Refreshments will be served.
Solitude is located off West Campus Drive near the Duck Pond.
Parking will be available at the Wright House and nearby lots. Directions will be provided when you register.
