Description:
Gillie's welcomes musician Billy Tao along with Amado Music to the stage on Saturday, July 6th.
VIBES, DRUMS, PIANO, a multi-instrumentalist. Billy has been performing since the age of 6. Starting out on a drum line, Billy learned the rudiments of drumming from Sam Evans, of the Army Band fame. Entering Junior High, Billy picked up the "Mallets" and demonstrated a natural talent for Marimba, Xylophone and Vibraphone. Being a percussionist whose forte is the keyboard instruments, launched Billy on an early and successful musical path, first to The New England Conservatory of Music, studying under Vic Firth. And then on to the US Marine Band where their massively popular recording of the Chimes of Liberty featured Billy. Billy went on to a prolonged career freelancing in Jazz and Rock groups in the Washington DC area.
Now in semi retirement, Billy has expanded his musical abilities to the piano where he is now an accomplished jazz pianist, enjoying playing BeBop, Latin Jazz, Bossa Nova, Jazz Fusion and Funk. Behind any of his musical endeavors, Billy is recognized as a consummate professional and brings decades of experience and creativity to whatever project he is involved in.
