Appalachian author Diane Gilliam will be a co-teacher for this year's Highland Summer Conference. She has authored two poetry collections, "One of Everything and Kettle Bottom", as well as a chap book, "Recipe for Blackberry Cake". For Kettle Bottom Diane won the Thomas and Lillie D. Chafin Award for Appalachian Writing. This will be Diane's third time teaching the HSC and we are excited about her return.

George Ella Lyon, regional author, will team-teach the Highland Summer Conference this year. With over 30 publications to her name, George Ella has written poetry collections, chidlren's stories, plays, and novels. She won the Appalachian Writers Association Book of the Year for "Catalpa" and the Jesse Stuart Media Award for her body of work. We welcome George Ella back to RU for her sixth time teaching for the HSC.

The Highland Summer Writers' Conference is a one-week intensive workshop offered annually by Radford University that is team-taught by well-known guest writers, George Ella Lyon and Diane Gilliam. It offers the opportunity to study and practice creative and expository writing within the context of regional culture.
