Description:
Renew the New and the New River Valley Regional Commission present ReNew the New Floyd Little River Clean-Up on Saturday, August 26, 2017 near On The Water at 2099 Thunderstruck Road in Floyd, VA.
Floyd County is pleased to announce its first-ever Little River Clean-up Day. Residents are invited to volunteer to spend the morning helping pick up litter and items in and along a stretch of the Little River.
This project is a collaboration of the County, the Town, On the Water in Floyd, the Tourism Office, the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce, and the New River Valley Regional Commission, as well as the regional “ReNew the New” effort. While the New River does not flow through Floyd County, the Little River is a tributary of the New River.
Volunteers will be provided a complimentary t-shirt and lunch. Canoes are being provided by On the Water in Floyd, owned by Daniel Sowers, who has led clean-ups of the river before. On the Water in Floyd is also providing the team leaders for each clean-up team, as well as the centralized location for check-in, lunch, etc. Those who register to help will be asked if they have their own life jackets they can bring.
Clean-up starts at 8:00 am with both a river and land crew with volunteers. Seats are limited on the river crew so reserve your spot soon.
Join us for our "Fall Into the New" New River Cleanup. This year you can register to join one of four clean up efforts: Giles, Radford, Montgomery or Floyd.
ReNew sponsors two annual river clean-ups. In the spring is “Ramps ‘n’ Roads” and in the fall, “Fall Into the New”. Anyone interested in protecting and renewing the beautiful New River is welcome to join in.
This dedicated group focuses on stewardship of the 37 Giles miles of the New River and includes the following: New River’s Edge, New River Outdoor Company and Tangent Outfitters; DGIF, DCR, National Committee for The New River, Giles Sheriff’s Department, Army Corps of Engineers, and Giles County personnel; as well as private citizens committed to the preservation and renewal of the historic New River.
