Description:
Science on Tap New River Valley presents Football Helmet Design with Abi Tyson on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Rising Silo Farm Brewery.

The risk of concussions is a big issue in football and protective gear such as helmets are central to making the game safer. Guest expert Abi Tyson, a biomedical engineer, will show us research on impact mechanics of various helmet designs.

Abi Tyson is a Research Associate in the Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics Department and part of Virginia Tech's Helmet Lab team. Her work in the Helmet Lab includes testing facilitation along with leading K-12 outreach efforts. Abi received her Master’s in Biomedical Engineering in 2015 and her Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering Science and Mechanics in 2014, both from Virginia Tech.

This event is free and open to the public.

Science On Tap New River Valley community celebrates scientific thought and explores new discoveries through monthly events with a featured researcher. We kick off the event with games, comedy, or other fun things. Then, an invited guest researcher demos their research. And then we'll discuss, ask questions, learn together, and mingle.
