Historic Smithfield Plantation presents Swinging to the 40s with the Old Pros Big Band and the "Profiles of Honor" Exhibit on Sunday, September 24, 2017.

Music Schedule:
• 2:00-3:00 pm: Swing Music from a DJ
• 3:00-5:00 pm: Old Pros Big Band performs

Join Historic Smithfield for the Annual Swinging to the 40s Big Band Concert featuring the Old Pros Big Band and World War II Veterans Appreciation with special invites to 35 local WWII veterans. This year's event will also feature the traveling exhibit "Profiles of Honor".

The Old Pros Big Band is an all-volunteer band based in the New River Valley in southwest Virginia. Founded in 1973, the band specializes in music of the big band era and performs concerts, dance club events, receptions, and fund raisers on a regular basis across Southwest Virginia.

Today membership includes professionals, small business owners, teachers, retirees, and students. Their ages and musical backgrounds are as varied as their professions.

The Virginia World War I and World War II Profiles of Honor mobile tour and interactive exhibit brings to life the state's integral role in both wars, highlighting stories of Virginians who served in both conflicts. As part of the tour, visitors are invited to bring their own WWI and WWII-related photographs to be scanned for inclusion in the Virginia Profiles of Honor project. This partnership with the Library of Virginia will help preserve the documents and stories of of our veterans for generations.

All scans will take place on site so you can share items with peace of mind that they will be immediately return to you.

Tickets for the music and dance are $8.00 per person and to include refreshments with a wine and cheese "ration" the cost is $16.00 per person.

Both the "Profiles of Honor" exhibit and scanning area is free to the public.
