ContraFolk at Virginia Tech presents a Techno Contra with DJ B-Ham on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in the Multipurpose Room in Virginia Tech's Graduate Life Center.

Schedule:
• 7:00 pm: Beginner Lesson
• 7:30-9:30 pm: Dancing

Bust out your glow sticks and join us for ContraFolk at Virginia Tech's first "techno contra" dance!

Our music and calling will be provided by DJ B-Ham (Brian Hamshar, dance caller).

Contra is a form of community folk dance made up of long lines of couples dancing in sequence. A contra dancer gets to dance with their partner and everyone else in their line! Each individual dance is taught and called by a 'caller' with music provided by a live band (though occasionally we'll host techno contras).

Worried about being new?

Don't be. Prior experience is not expected! Before each evening begins, the night's caller offers a lesson for beginners or anyone looking for a refresher. In addition, contra is a walking dance, so no fancy footwork is required. Contra tradition is to change partners at the end of each dance, so bring your friends and get ready for a great time!

After the dance, join us down the street at The Cellar Restaurant & 6-Pak Store for post-dance food and mingling.

DIRECTIONS:
From Interstate 81, take exit 118B onto 460. Continue to exit 5B. Go straight for 2.5 miles until you make it to downtown and take a left on College Ave. The Graduate Life Center will be on your right after the road turns 90 degrees to the left. After the turn, there will be a parking lot (Squires parking lot) on your left. You are free to park here after 5.

The Virginia Tech's Graduate Life Center (Donaldson Brown) is located at 155 Otey Street in Blacksburg, VA.
