ContraFolk at Virginia Tech presents the first Contra Dance of 2018 on Sunday, January 28, 2018 in the Old Dominion Ballroom at Virginia Tech's Squires Student Center.
Schedule:
• 7:00 pm: Beginner Lesson
• 7:30-9:30 pm: Dancing
Join us for ContraFolk's first dance of the new semester!
Our music will be provided by Rule of Thumb with calling by Bill Wellington.
Beginners, experts, students, locals, out-of-towners and all are welcome. As always, our dances are gender-role free.
No dance experience or partner required.
Contra is a form of community folk dance made up of long lines of couples dancing in sequence. A contra dancer gets to dance with their partner and everyone else in their line! Each individual dance is taught and called by a 'caller' with music provided by a live band (though occasionally we'll host techno contras).
After the dance, join us down the street at the Cellar Restaurant & 6-Pak Store for post-dance food and mingling.
