Description:
The Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech presents an Arab Rhythm and Drumming Workshop with Karim Nagi on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Collegiate Square Dance Studio (former Center of Dance location) in Blacksburg, VA.
Karim Nagi will teach several famous Arabic rhythms. These rhythms will come from various regions of the Arab world, including Egypt, Iraq, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. The students will later link the rhythms into a composition that can be performed. This class will not only teach rhythm and style, but also how the drummers can function in a group and create percussive songs together.
All drummers are welcome. Students may bring any type of Arabic or world percussion drum, as long as the instrument can make at least two different sounds.
Karim Nagi, a native Egyptian drummer, DJ, composer, and folk dancer, is the creator of Turbo Tabla and has released four internationally distributed CDs of his unique brand of Arab house/electronica using acoustic instruments.
Admission is free on a first-come, first-served basis. To guarantee your seat, register online in advance at:
