Description:
The Glencoe Mansion, Museum & Gallery presents "Sampling Our Favorite Recipes": Memories and Recipes with the Daltons on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.

Glencoe Mansion, Museum and Gallery is pleased to announce that the family of Governor John N. Dalton will be at the museum to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Governor Dalton’s entry into office. The event is a commemoration of Governor Dalton’s legacy and the cookbook that helped him reach Virginia.

Tickets to the event are $30.00 per person and includes a sampling of savory and sweet recipes and a copy of the Anniversary Edition of the 1977 promotional recipe book "Our Favorite Recipes".

Spaces are limited. Those interested in attending should make their reservation by Thursday, May 24, by calling 540-731-5031 or via email at info.glencoe@gmail.com.

In addition to enjoying the recipes, guests will hear Edwina Dalton Phillips and her daughter, Kathy Dalton Mika, and sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Callie Dalton and John and Beth Dalton, speak about the development of the promotional Dalton cookbooks and share stories about Governor Dalton’s time in office.

Governor John N. Dalton grew up in Radford, and upon receiving his law degree, returned to the City with his wife Edwina (Eddy) where they raised their family. Beginning in the 1960s Dalton began his political career, serving as a member of the House of Delegates, State Senate and then as Lt. Governor and Governor. Governor Dalton was dedicated to advancing Virginia and was an advocate for the Commonwealth up to his death in 1986.

Throughout John N. Dalton’s campaigns for political office his wife, Eddy, was indispensable in promoting her husband. According to Eddy Dalton Phillips, she would take food to events on the campaign trail, and people began asking for the recipes. This blossomed into the idea of a cookbook, which appeared for the 1973 race for Lt. Governor. The cookbook was updated and printed for the gubernatorial race of 1977.

This 1977 cookbook is now being reprinted with a biography of Governor Dalton and a look at how the Dalton family has grown. Copies of the Anniversary Edition of Our Favorite Recipes will be available for sale beginning May 29, for $7.00 each. Proceeds benefit the museum where the legacy of Governor Dalton is preserved with an exhibit and a collection of his personal papers and effects.
