The Giles County Community Chorus presents "Our CommUnity Sings: an Audience Participation Event" on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at the Newport Community Center.

Our CommUnity Sings is an audience participation event, the likes of which you’ve never seen. We’ll sing together: fun songs, familiar songs, love songs, profound songs. It’s an audience participation event, not a performance! So it’s not just for “singers” or “musicians”. It’s for everybody who wants to foster unity, harmony, and connectedness among their families, friends, and neighbors.

Singing engaging tunes and infectious harmonies together will initiate a ripple effect that will spread, not only among our closer neighbors, but also to farther communities. Using the universal language of music, we’ll raise awareness that we’re one people and inspire others to create and build strength in this community.

Every Friday during the coming school year, volunteers at three Giles churches will pack over 100 backpacks with food, which are distributed to needy children at Eastern, Macy-McClaugherty, and Narrows elementary schools. Many of these children go home on a weekly basis without the assurance of regular, nutritious meals over the weekend. The backpacks address this need.

Half of each $10.00 admission ticket will help fill these backpacks. When you help us meet our goal of 400 attendees, you’ll guarantee a donation of $2,000.00 toward this worthy cause. And our web page has even more ideas about how you can participate in this event and support the Giles County backpack programs, such as by bringing backpack items directly to the event.
