Description:
The Radford Humane Society presents the 7th annual River City Music Fest at Bisset Park in Radford, VA.

There will be live music by many local bands, including Eric Gress, The Java Brothers, Timewave Zero, The Mudd Daubers and Queen Bees, Johnny Cake and The Lunch Truck and the Stemwinders from Tennessee. There will also be food trucks, beer & wine garden, crafters and children's activities.

Several area K9 officers will also be demonstrating their skills, as well as dogs from Fetch-and-Fly.

Eric Gress is a singer and song writer from Pulaski, VA and one of Southwest Virginia's greatest homegrown musicians. Writing since he was 12 years old and playing any instrument he touched from the time he was two Eric has quite the catalog of music in his file. Rock music is what started his writing career at an early age and kept him traveling and playing. In Late 2013 he decided to step away from the rock world and try country for a change.

After writing a full album for the band Buck Nelson, Eric decided to separate himself from the band and take a walk down the solo artist road for a change. Since then he has been plugging away with writing, recording and playing as many shows as possible. With the new music he has written he hopes to catch the ears of friends, fans and anyone else who shares the love of music.

He has shared the stage and opened for Travis Tritt, Tyler Farr, Luke Combs and Old Crow Medicine Show. Eric has fans all across southeastern United States, and plays regularly in Nashville, Tennessee, as well as other states.

“To me, music is something that everyone in the world relates to. It can make you smile and it can make you cry but most of all its something 20,000 strangers can agree on at one time in a packed arena.. that is a beautiful thing.”

The Java Brothers bluegrass band was born out of Radford’s Monday Night Fiddle & Banjo Jam. They are progressive, but pretty much only to the extent that they'll play new songs as hard driving bluegrass with some rock 'n roll vibes.

They love Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, The Seldom Scene, JD Crowe, Tony Rice, Jimmy Martin, Sam Bush, the Country Gentlemen, the Beatles, the Stones, and all the greats. The Java Brothers have a fun live show that mixes standard Bluegrass and Newgrass with fiery original tunes.

The Java Brothers have become Radford’s house band however they’ve played dances, festivals, brew pubs, and church services all over Southwest Virginia.

This group of all-star musicians hail from the New River Valley of Virginia, up in the spine of the Appalachians where rock and blues meet to jam, where the mountains meet the sky and raise your spirits high, where psychedelic funk punch is just what’s for breakfast. Timewave Zero music drives crowds straight into the heart of the singularity connect today!

With a band name inspired by Terrence Mckenna's i-Ching mathematics and eschatological explorations, TW0 is always at the ready for a live dance music adventure. These musicians have played together for crowds of hundreds in several formulations including: The Jackass Menagerie, The Jugbusters, and the Dirty Hairies. As their CDs, videos and websites show, groove and positive messaging dominate 'the happening'.

An original Blacksburg band started circa 2003 and evolved over the years as epic electric instruments, keys, and saxophone came, conquered and graduated. From the Jackass Menagerie release 'No Particular Order' (2005) to the 2007 release of 'Pimps In Space' as Timewave Zero, the band is always hosting the best talent in town. Recent gigs energized crowds at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg's Mingle, The Sycamore, and over the airwaves with WUVT radio appearances. In 2014 the band headlined and hosted a special tribute show for the songwriter Will Killhour at the Blue Nile in New Orleans.

Johnny Cake & the Lunch Truck is a bluegrass and newgrass band based in the New River Valley. The band draws musical inspiration from jazz, rock, country, blues and more. The band plays classics such as Blackberry Blossom and Red Haired Boy, bluegrass standards such as White Freightliner, and jazzier numbers including Sweet Georgia Brown. They do it with guitars, banjos, bass and a percussion section that includes bodhran (that Celtic drum you’ll often see in Irish sessions).

You may have heard the band at the Palisades, at Rising Silo, or at the Fatback Soul Shack. You can hear more of their music on Facebook and on YouTube.

Band members Bud, Jeff, Aaron, Beth, and Anthony each hungered for a band that would both pay homage to tradition and to interpret that tradition in new ways that were respectful of the past with an eye to the future. One day they somehow all ended up in line together at the lunch truck. The rest is history.

Each member comes to the band from a different musical genre: rock, blues, funk, folk, bluegrass and more come together along with years of experience drawn from playing in bands in all genres. Just like soup, or chili, when you add in all those tasty ingredients, you end up with something much more than a sum of its parts. Johnny Cake & the Lunch Truck satisfies.

Stemwinder is a Tennessee band that performs bluegrass, folk and Americana. What started out as four new friends getting together to jam occasionally has become four really good friends getting together to play music for their family, friends and fans whenever and wherever they get the chance.

Take a musical journey with this new quartet across time and musical boundaries. Bluegrass to folk and then some. From Norman Blake and Tony Rice to Tom Paxton, and the Carter Family with stops along the way to visit the Eagles, the Byrds, Sam Bush, Dan Fogelberg, Richard Thompson, Michael Martin Murphy, and even the Rolling Stones. Each of the four band member brings their own personal influences to the mix creating an interesting and diverse listening experience.
