The Montgomery Museum & Lewis Miller Art Center presents an Artists Reception with Sidra Kalszka and Shaun Whiteside on Thursday, January 10, 2019.

While these two artists have very different styles, each creates pieces that are stimulating. intriguing and beautiful.

Shaun uses acrylic paint to create dark, emotion-evoking images that take advantage of the natural properties of water and paint, allowing it to move, accumulate, and evaporate by gravity and other natural laws calling it an "exaltation of nature." explaining that it calls attention to the contrast between natural order and human disorder. He likes to experiment with different colors, applications, mixes, and other techniques, in attempt to "explore the boundaries of the medium."

Sidra focuses on ceramics and watercolor. Her ceramics are decorative-functional sculptures and her watercolors depict elements of nature giving them less perfect and more realistic features. She explores "the beauty of imperfections" to create images that are more believable and engaging.

As Sidra explains, their pieces are "very different, but they have similar organic qualities," as they each incorporate nature—in subject matter in Sidra's case, and in technique for Shaun.

Admission is free and all are welcome.

The exhibit sill be in place from January-February, 2019.

The Montgomery Museum is located at 300 South Pepper Street in Christiansburg, VA.
