Description:
The Radford Public Library presents the program "Gone Native: An Introduction to Virginia’s Native Bees" on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

People of all age groups and backgrounds are encouraged to join us to learn about the often overlooked native bees of our region. Our presenter will discuss how to build your own bee nest as well as provide information on the different nest designs, and provide handouts with some design plans. The program will also touch on honey bee biology, behavior, nesting habits and what you can do to help, these important pollinators!

The presenter, Tim McCoy, is an Extension Associate in the Virginia Tech Pesticide Programs where he develops pesticide safety educational materials focused on protecting non-target species. He has been a member of the VT Entomology department for 16 years, where he has worked on the management of a diverse range urban pests to include: cockroaches, ants, termites, and bed bugs. While his current focus is using the fascinating topic of native pollinators to deliver pesticide safety and general biology information to audiences, he has also maintained a decades-long interest in the increasing popular topic of entomophagy: insect eating.
