Description:
The Virginia Tech Department of Physics presents Fun Piano Repair and Tuning Demonstration on Saturday, April 20, 2019 in Room 130 in Hahn Hall North on the campus of Virginia Tech.
Enjoy an afternoon using physics and engineering to open up a piano, fix some keys, learn some music theory, and show how to 'stretch' tune your own piano. A free javascript program was written for this presentation to help analyze the audio spectrum - you can even try it out on your cell phone while there. We will also tune a guitar and talk about drum kits while tuning a tom-tom.
We'll show you how to transform a $50.00 piano from the thrift store into something playable again.
The program will be led by Virginia Tech Physics Professors Bruce Vogelaar, Hans Robinson and Tatsu Takeuchi.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
