Description:
The Korean American Student Association (KASA) at Virginia Tech presents their Culture Show 2019 titled "Rising Star" on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Burruss Auditorium on the campus of Virginia Tech.

This year's show is about the popular trends in modern day Korea focusing particular on the popular media culture. The concept of Korean idols is very prominent in Korean culture and is a topic of entertainment whether the performers themselves or television shows created around that lifestyle. The landscapes and popular holidays of Korean culture will also be showcased.

Alongside modern day performances, the show will present traditional performances including buchaechum, which is a traditional fan dance performance that was enjoyed in royal courts and is still very famous today. Our buchaechum this year will use both traditional and modern songs. Likewise for our non-traditional performances, VT Shidae, a Korean pop dance parody group here on campus will be dancing to a mix of classic Korean songs showcasing the popular "Hallyu Wave" that has reached countries all over the world.

"Rising Star" features the return of the famous CEO of KASA Entertainment who brings exciting news, a new pop group will debut! But, when members clash and the past comes back to haunt them, will they be able to overcome their differences to have a successful debut? Mystery and mayhem abound in this tale of becoming stars!

KASA's annual culture show is our opportunity to showcase our values, highlight and promote Korean culture to any and all who are interested.

Admission is free and all are welcome.

The will also be raffles during our intermission for a chance to win cool prizes.

Doors open at 6:30 pm and the show begins at 7:00 pm.
