Description:
Good Samaritan Hospice presents the 4th Annual NRV Hike for Hospice on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Claytor Lake State Park Picnic Shelter #1.
Schedule:
• 1:30-2:00 pm: Day of Registration & Pre-Registered Check-In
• 2:05 pm: Welcome & Gathering of Hike Groups
• 2:15 pm: Easy Hike (Option #1) and Advance Hike Depart
• 2:45 pm: Intermediate Hike departs
• 3:30 pm: Easy Hike (Option #2) departs
• 4:20 pm: Raffle Prize Drawing
There are four different levels of hikes and the hikes will be led by Claytor Lake State Park rangers and naturalists.
1. Easy Hike Option 1 & Option 2 – 0.75 Mile Walk
2. Moderate Hike – 2.00 Mile Hike
3. Advanced Hike – 3.00 Mile Hike
The afternoon will also include:
• Lunch off the grill provided by Hethwood Market Catering (burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers)
• Ice Cream throughout the event (one treat per person)
• Live bluegrass music provided by Eastern Divide Band
• Games including cornhole, jumbo jenga, horseshoes & more
• Fishing: Claytor Lake State Park will provide fishing poles just bring your fishing license
• Puppy Kissing Booth featuring Good Sam's own licensed therapy dog
• Face Painting for the young and young at heart
• A moment of reflection and remembrance celebration will before the hikes start
All of the proceeds raised from the NRV Hike for Hospice are designated to directly support and enhance Good Samaritan Hospice’s extensive Bereavement Program and grief counseling services offered throughout the New River Valley.
Good Sam’s Bereavement Program annually serves approximately 700 individuals, hosts 100 + grief counseling classes and groups in the community which are free and open to the public, and follows each patient’s family for 13 months after they pass to offer support and reassurance.

There will also be a raffle. This year’s outdoor adventure raffle prizes were donated by Backcountry.com and Walkabout Outfitter. Purchase your tickets for a chance to win a brand new, 12 foot, sit-in kayak. Tickets are $2.00 each or $5.00 for three.
Dogs are permitted at Claytor Lake State Park as long as they are on a leash and have their rabies tag.
