Description:
Blacksburg Library presents an Author Reading Event with authors Joanne Wolfe and Bruce Turner on Saturday, May 4, 2019.

Join us as Authors Joanne Wolfe and Bruce Turner will be reading from their works. Wolfe will be presenting "In the Hollow of God's Hand: The Life and Times of Edward Z. Yoder", the story of one man's journey westward after the Civil War. Dr. Bruce Turner, an associate professor emeritus at Virginia Tech will discuss "Left-Lane Driver: Anecdotes from a 22-year Commute".

Wolfe’s "In the Hollow of God’s Hand: The Life and Times of Edward Z. Yoder" is the story of one man’s journey westward after the Civil War, his pioneering adventures on the prairies, in the coal mines of North Dakota, the lumber camps of Minnesota, and the verdant farming country of western Oregon. Edd Yoder lived through a period of nation-building that included two World Wars and the Great Depression, and his story illuminates that era in a profoundly personal way. It is a true story of unbelievable hardship, as well as personal and spiritual triumph over nearly insurmountable adversity.

Joanne Wolfe’s 40-year career in publishing includes work on newspapers, magazines, and books as a writer, editor, and publisher. She has worked for national publishers such as Meredith Corp., and has headed her own magazine and book publishing companies. Her new publishing imprint, Eaglefeather Press, focuses on biography, autobiography, and memoir. Joanne is a graduate of the University of Oregon School of Journalism.

In 1982, Bruce Turner began an odyssey of sorts: a twice-weekly, 160-mile commute between Blacksburg, Virginia, and Johnson City, Tennessee. During that commute, which went on for 22 years, Bruce encountered a slice of southern Americana that produced some of the strangest on-the-road adventures imaginable think Jack Kerouac meets Bill Bryson. "Left-Lane Driver: Anecdotes from a 22-year Commute" will make you laugh, cry, and shake your head in disbelief.

Dr. Bruce Turner is an associate professor emeritus at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. He is a geneticist and an ichthyologist who specializes in fish genetics. A prolific author and reviewer in his own field, this is his first book for the general public.

Admission is free and all are welcome.

Books will be available for purchase and signing.
