The Virginia Center for Civil War Studies at Virginia Tech presents “'Under the Rebel Lash’: Black Prisoners of War in the Confederate South.” on Thursday, September 10, 2020.
Please join the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies at Virginia Tech for a free lecture and discussion with VCCWS postdoc Dr. Caroline Wood Newhall. Dr. Newhall will share her findings on Black Civil War soldiers who became prisoners of war in the hands of Confederates. She will discuss how she was able to identify 2,300 Black POWs, the forms of captivity they experienced, how they managed to survive, and their importance to understanding the Civil War.
The public lecture is free and all are welcome.
