Description:
AARP Blacksburg presents the January AARP Blacksburg Chapter Program with presenters Andrew Cohill and Lynn Huber who will speak about "High Quality Fiber Internet" on Zoom on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

The program begins at 1:00 PM. Community members with an interest in membership in our local chapter (open to age 50+) and/or the presentation topic are invited to join us for our programs.

Dr. Andrew Cohill was the Director of the world renowned Blacksburg Electronic Village (BEV) at Virginia Tech from 1993 to 2002. In the nineties, Blacksburg became widely known as the "most wired community in the world.” Dr. Cohill is a broadband architect with an extensive background in broadband network design and broadband planning. He started, Design Nine, broadband planning company in 1998, and WideOpen Networks a fiber network company in 2012. Today he manages both companies and is excited about his latest venture: WideOpen Blacksburg. He hopes to bring fiber Internet to 8,000 homes in Montgomery County in the next four years.

Ms. Huber is an electrical engineer and the project lead for the WideOpen Blacksburg endeavor. She has been charged with the task of making sure the community understands and embraces the benefits of Fiber to the Home vs copper cable.
