Celebrating 25 years! The Radford Highlanders Festival has grown into one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region. The Radford Highlander Festival brings together Scottish Highland Games, Celtic music, massed pipe and drum band performance, Scottish clan march, sheepherding demonstrations, children's activities, booths from craft and food vendors and family friendly entertainment for festival lovers of all ages.

Music will be headlined by this year by Syr and House Of Hamill.

SYR (sire) is a Celtic Folk-Rock band from Columbia, South Carolina. What started as a small traditional cover band has evolved into a serious endeavor with a unique blend of genres. Taking inspiration from Celtic history, stories and myth, SYR blends their own rock background to create powerful songs with themes like battle, love, loss, heritage and victory.

SYR also plays Irish & Scottish drinking songs, pirate sea shanties and ballads in Gaelic even taking modern songs and adding a Celtic twist to create an interesting blend of old and new.

Pennsylvania-based House of Hamill is a high-energy Irish and folk music trio. They are a fixture on festival stages across the United States and have shared their music and stories on the country’s premier folk stages.

Whether they’re ripping through a set of original jigs and reels, adding lush three-part harmonies into traditional folk ballads, or cracking up an audience with stories from the road, House of Hamill puts on a show that captivates audiences from the very first note.

Their version of “Pound a Week Rise” rose to #1 on the US Folk DJ charts, and the video for their all-violin cover of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” amassed over 16 million views on Facebook, where it was shared over 400,000 times.

Their latest release, “Folk Hero,” captures perfectly the frenetic energy and eclecticism of their always engaging live show. A lively collection of original instrumentals, reimagined folk ballads, and new songs that showcase the trio’s versatility.

Over the past 20+ years, the festival has more than tripled in size, and now attracts an estimated crowd of 10,000 people. Whether a family’s background is of Scots-Irish origin or of other descent, the day always brings with it an air of excitement and anticipation. There is no place more beautiful than Southwest Virginia in autumn and the Blue Ridge Mountains provide a beautiful back-drop for the fall festival.

Admission is free and and all are welcome.

The festival is a joint partnership with the City of Radford and Radford University.
