Apparition Catalog kicks off 2023 with Volume 2 of the series featuring musicians (Eli)zabeth Owens, Llywelyx and Solar Hex with interstitial music selected by Hip Nick on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Odd Fellows Building Lodge #20 in Blacksburg, VA.

Enjoy a night of gorgeous Virginian experimental music at the historic Oddfellows Lodge, rooted in tradition and seeking the new.

(Eli)zabeth Owens (they/them) is a nonbinary songwriter and artist based in Richmond, Virginia using music & video as a vehicle for brave and vulnerable self-uncovering.

As a lover of magick with a background in classical piano, voice, guitar, Celtic harp and sound design, Owens uses these instruments as tools for deep inner work that translate to sparkling arrangements and stunning live performances. Playing with the languages of folk, romance, soundscape, avant-garde and glitch, their music results in a timeless yet cuttingly fresh brand of art rock unlike anything you’ll hear today. Conceptually, their work centers around unraveling ego patterns and harmful cultural myths, allowing love and compassion to blossom amidst painful overgrowth.

Influences include Kate Bush, Bjork, Joanna Newsom, and Caroline Polacheck.

Llywelyx is an experimental artist based in Roanoke, VA using found objects to uncover other dimensions in sound.

Solar Hex, based in Blacksburg, VA, performs venerable cello and vocal concoctions from the house on chicken legs deep in the hollow.

Currently focused on exploring color and tone, and the ways in which the sound of an acoustic cello can be stretched and extended.
