Description:
The Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech presents Cirque Mechanics performing "Zephyr: A Whirlwind of a Circus" on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

From the creative team that brought us Birdhouse Factory in 2022 and Pedal Punk in 2015 comes a fun-for-all-ages theatrical circus show inspired by the power of wind. Cirque Mechanics combines inspired storytelling and innovative mechanical staging for its latest smash, Zephyr.

Instead of wind, Zephyr harnesses human power to generate an energetic experience, complete with a rotating windmill and breathtaking aerial acrobatics. An emotive and exhilarating tale about human ingenuity and our natural resources, in Zephyr you will witness the tug of war that exists between man and nature, in the name of progress.

Cirque Mechanics has designed and built a performance windmill to serve as the multifunctional mechanical centerpiece of the story. Mounted on a turntable, the windmill combines both modern and older, more picturesque elements with the transformation from one aspect to another providing a change of scenery in real time.

Adults tickets range from $25.00-$65.00 and tickets for Virginia Tech student tickets with ID and youth ages 18 & under are $10.00 each.

Cirque Mechanics was founded in 2004 by Boston native and German Wheel artist Chris Lashua. The company quickly established itself as a premiere American circus, with its unique approach to performance, inspiring storytelling, and innovative mechanical staging. Spectacle Magazine hailed it as “the greatest contribution to the American circus since Cirque du Soleil.” Cirque Mechanics shows, rooted in realism, display a raw quality, rarely found in modern circus, that makes its message timeless and relevant. The stories are wrapped in circus acrobatics, mechanical wonders, and a bit of clowning around.
