Description: The Floyd Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the 3rd Floyd Plein Air Biennial, the week-long outdoor painting festival, to take place at sites in and around Floyd County starting on Monday, August 15, 2022 through Saturday, August 20, 2022.

On Saturday, the Quick Draw Exhibition opens. The special exhibit features the paintings created during the Quick Draw Event combining both competition and non-competition artists. All work will be available for purchase. The exhibit will be on display until Saturday, October 1st.

Additionally, Friday features the Public Gala Celebration and Art Sale from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at The Center. Free and open to the public.

Finally, there will be two Patron events on Saturday, the Joli Ayn Wood Painting Demonstration and the Collector's Reception from 5:00-6:00 PM.

Join us on the grounds of the Center for a special morning of painting out of doors with Virginia native & Festival Chair Joli Ayn Wood. Joli will talk about and demonstrate her plein air painting skills. The cost for the public is $5.00 donation and Patrons are free.

The Collector’s Reception will allow Patrons early access to view and purchase the artists’ paintings created during the week, as well as early access to mingle with artists with complimentary beverages and food.

This will be the third time the Center has invited and hosted a field of regional and national artists as part of this Biennial Event. Having taken a year off due to the pandemic, the Center is excited to bring artists back to paint.

Artists will enjoy painting the Blue Ridge Parkway, the famed Buffalo Mountain, unique sites along the beautiful Little River, local farms and vistas, as well as the Town of Floyd. Events include artist demos, an Artist/Patron Night including Wet Paint Sale, Quick Draw Contest at the Historic Floyd Country Store & Friday Night Jamboree, art sale and reception!

Abingdon resident and nationally renowned plein air artist Kyle Buckland will act as the event judge. Currently a resident artist at The William King Museum of Art in Abingdon, Kyle’s unique painting style has garnered him many awards and acclaim, and in 2021 he was inducted into the prestigious Plein Air Painters of the Southeast. Artist and Virginia native Joli Ayn Wood will return as Chairperson for the 2022 event.

Community involvement in this week-long festival is welcomed and free.

Patron tickets are available for purchase and grant access to special patron events during the week. Patron tickets are $100.00 per person.
