Description: Jessie Peterman Library presents the program "Foraging for Wild Mushrooms" on Sunday, March 19, 2023.

This presentation will explore the diversity of macrofungi in our Blue Ridge bioregion. Participants will explore the basic taxonomy of mushrooms for field identification - keying out species and discussing wild mushroom habitat and ecology. We will also discuss wild culinary mushroom seasonality and preparation.

Matthew Reiss is the owner and operator of Gnomestead Hollow Farm and Forage, a commercial mushroom farm and vegetable ferment business located in the NRV of SWVA. In addition to mushroom farming and ferment production, Matthew recently graduated with an M.S. in Architecture from Virginia Tech, where he studied and taught courses in biodesign using edible mushroom mycelia and residual crop biomass.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
