Blacksburg Wine Lab presents a Whiskey Takeover featuring New Standard Bluegrass on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Join us for an evening where whiskey takes center stage at The Wine Lab. From Ireland to Japan, Scotland to Tennessee, and Canada to Kentucky, we want to celebrate the finest flavors that fermented grain mash offers us. Given our beloved Blacksburg locale, our whiskey takeover will have a slant towards celebrating all things Appalachian. For one night only, we’re showcasing a curated selection of exceptional whiskeys, available in 1 oz and 2 oz pours and an array of awesome whiskey cocktails made just for the occasion. No flights, just pure, thoughtful tasting. New Standard Bluegrass begins at 9:00 PM, setting the mood for a night of great conversation and rich, nuanced pours. New Standard is a traditional and hard driving bluegrass band that brings together a variety of styles and influences ranging from traditional music to contemporary bluegrass and gospel artists. The band was founded in October, 2011 by three Virginia Tech students. New Standard plays a mix of traditional bluegrass and gospel music honoring those before us such as Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Reno & Smiley and The Stanley Brothers. New Standard has entertained audiences in many towns across the mountains and Piedmont of Virginia. From fall festivals to church services, birthday parties to fishing tournaments, the group enjoys playing traditional gospel and bluegrass music for a wide variety of audiences.
