Description:
The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts presents a Music on Mondays concert broadcast online titled "Music from the Caribbean - World World Premiere of the Clarinet Sonata" on Monday, March 22, 2021.
Music on Mondays series is delighted to welcome back Virginia Tech’s music professors clarinetist Yevgeny Dokshansky and pianist Hsiang Tu in a world premiere of a newly composed Clarinet Sonata by the Trinidad and Tobago composer, Roger J. Henry.
Listeners will be enveloped by the sweet sounds of Caribbean music despite the fact that the work was composed entirely while the composer was on lockdown due to COVID-19. The five-movement composition, as the composer has put it, is "a rollercoaster of emotions". The rhythms, accents, and colors of the music of Trinidad and Tobago are further explored in Henry’s Trio No. 2 for clarinet, violin, and piano, featuring Virginia Tech's violin professor John Irrera, which rounds off this colorful and exciting program that is partially sponsored by the Departmental Diversity Grant from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences grant.
